Who are you?

.

My name is Vivian and I’m here to share my love of holistic nutrition, nontoxic beauty products, and wellness.

I am a holistic nutrition student at Bauman College in Berkeley, CA. I am also a corporate accountant.

How did you get here?

In 2013, I became very ill with an intestinal pathogenic infection, Small Intestinal Bacteria Overgrowth (SIBO), hormone imbalance, adrenal fatigue, and histamine intolerance. When it began, I had no idea what was happening to my health. I had always been a health nut. I exercised daily, I was aware of what I ate, and I liked living a healthy lifestyle. It didn’t add up. At that time, I had many seemingly unrelated symptoms–insomnia, shortness of breath, dizziness, exercise induced hives, chest pain, fatigue, extreme reactions to foods–just to name a few.  After a near fainting spell at work, a few trips to the ER, and seeing a handful of doctors, I could not find any answers as to why I was experiencing these symptoms. Doctors could not explain my pseudo allergies or offer a solution that addressed the root cause.

At the beginning of my journey, no one could help me, so I had to help myself. I frantically combed the web for information on any condition that mirrored my own. I dove into learning about traditional diets and the most nourishing and healing foods which support intestinal healing and reduce inflammation. I began to very carefully manage my symptoms through diet as well as through several lifestyle changes, including detoxifying my beauty and personal care routine. I soon began to find the silver lining to my dark, gloomy, and often scary ordeal–I became passionate about holistic wellness.

What are you here to share?

In my wellness journey, I found the principles of following a Weston A. Price and Paleo diet to be the best approaches in terms of healing and in preventing disease. Eating this way means embracing whole, nutrient-dense foods that reduce inflammation and promote intestinal health. (Why all this talk about intestinal health? All disease begins in the gut. 70% of the cells that make up the body’s immune system are found in the wall of the gut. But more on that later.)

I also found that the process of switching over to nontoxic beauty and personal care products can be overwhelming. I’m here to help you make a smooth transition to green beauty and to show you that this process can be fun.

I also love to be inspired. In addition to healthy recipes, nutrition information, and green beauty product reviews, you can also expect to see quite a few motivational self development articles.

  1. Sounds like you have been through a lot! I have had similar issues, but never got diagnosed with anything. I still get fatigue, or panic like symptoms and just overall weird feeling at moments… it’s been a long journey. I have been to many alternative practitioners as well as western docs but haven’t really had any luck. I try to eat healthy but it’s really hard. Hope I can get some tips from your blog!

    • Hi Rebecca! Thanks for your comment. I’m sorry to hear you’ve had similar issues yourself. I hope the content I produce will be useful to you. The first step in addressing your symptoms is through diet and lifestyle. I do personally know that it is hard, but it is well worth it. The next would be to continue to find a naturopath or integrative practitioner who will look at your body as a whole to identify the root cause of your symptoms. Prior to becoming their client/patient, I would have a short conversation with them in which you ask a series of questions to gauge their experience and to see if you are on the same page. It helps if they are already reputable or if someone you know can refer you to a practitioner who they have had success with. Good luck to you and thanks for reading my blog 🙂
